NCL - Norwegian Cruise Line is an innovative cruise company with a fleet of 11 ships with some more ships under construction. NCL's policy is an example of how a cruise line should expand its activities. For example, NCL was the first cruise line who dared to operate Caribbean cruises out of the port of New York. NCL was also the first cruise line to operate big ships in Hawaii all year round. But the most important innovation was introduction of the « Freestyle Cruising » onboard all the ships of NCL fleet. The main feature of the Freestyle Cruising is the revolutionary change in dining arrangements. The number of restaurants onboard reaching 10-11 together with extended hours in the main restaurants allow open seating instead of shifts in main dining room on other cruise lines. Other innovations include simplified tipping procedures, « resort-casual » attire each night and a more leisurely disembarkation procedure.
